Why do WhatsApp photos lose their date?
WhatsApp strips much of the original metadata and the file is written fresh on your phone, so the file date becomes 'now'. Where any date survives in the EXIF, this tool restores it.
Why download a ZIP?
Browsers can't set a file's date on your disk directly. A ZIP stores the date per file, so unzipping puts the correct timestamp back.
